Mac Daddy Overwintering Cover – 10 Frame

Overwintering bees can be frustrating! Wet and cold conditions inside the hive cause massive losses annually. Even experienced beekeepers struggle with overwintering. Annual winter losses are extremely expensive, and defeating.

The Mac Daddy Overwintering Cover is our own patent pending design made in Maine. This design is compatible with standard Langstroth 10 frame hives. It is to be used during the late fall through the early spring, and can be installed at any time throughout the cold months of the year.

How is this different? 

We believe our product is revolutionary. Winter loss has plagued beekeepers throughout history. Moisture inside the hive is a leading cause of winter loss. During winter, bees consume honey, which generates moisture and heat. When this moisture and heat rises and reaches a standard cover, it makes contact with the cold and causes condensation to form which drips back onto the bees. This wet environment constantly weakens the cluster and can cause disease. Our cover allows moisture to leave, and provides a layer of insulation, keeping the bees dry and warm.

Recommendations 

Coating – We highly recommend you coat the exterior of the box with a water resistant product.

Upper Entrance – We also recommend placing an inner cover below the Mac Daddy Overwintering Cover to provide the bees with an upper entrance for the winter months, as well as a surface to place the food stores on.
